My Message

Hello everyone!

I often meet with women and girls in remote and rural areas who have heavy workloads (women and girls often working twice as many hours as men and boys) doing unrecognised and unpaid work in agriculture production, and unpaid care responsibilities for children, elderly, and the sick, collecting water and fuel for cooking, maintaining households and preparing food.

Lack of access to piped water increases workload for women. More than 60% of the water collection in remote and rural areas are done by adult females of the households, and girls when they are old enough to collect water which has negative impact on their performance at school.

I am taking CARE Australia's Walk in Her Shoes challenge. I'm walking from 22–28 October 2018 in solidarity with girls who walk 6km every day to collect water.

The money you donate can help provide clean water closer to home so girls can spend less time walking, and more time studying.

Thanks for your support!

Gayathri

Thanks you for your support, my dear friends and family. Today is Day 2 of my WALK IN HER SHOES. It is truely humbling to be a sliding door between extreme poverty and prosperity; and to experince the values of empathy, solidarity and humanity. #foramoreequalworld #forwomenwhoinpsiremeeveryday #waterforall
